Gordon Spice Trophy Weekend Review
Matthew Ellis – Point CNC Limited
What an unforgettable weekend at the 83rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting, where I had the privilege of
competing in the prestigious Gordon Spice Trophy alongside owner, driver, and builder Andrew Willis in his
genuine Triplex ex-Gerry Marshall Ford Capri.
Goodwood is one of the most iconic historic motorsport events in the world, and to be invited onto a grid packed
with legendary machinery and world-renowned drivers was something truly special. Sharing the circuit with
names such as Jenson Button, Tom Kristensen, David Brabham, and the Franchitti brothers made the
whole experience even more surreal.
Leading into the event, the team faced significant challenges after suffering engine issues in the build-up to the
meeting. Despite arriving at Goodwood down on power, morale and determination never dropped. Andrew and
the entire crew worked tirelessly to prepare the Capri and give us the best opportunity possible against an
incredibly competitive field.
The Gordon Spice Trophy delivered everything you would expect from Goodwood — close racing, incredible
atmosphere, and a grid filled with some of the most valuable and historic touring cars in motorsport. Against the
odds, the team produced a fantastic performance and brought the Capri home in 15th position out of 29
entrants, which felt like a huge reward after the difficult run-up to the weekend.
For me personally, it was an honour to make my first appearance at Goodwood and to represent Point CNC
Limited on such an iconic stage. The continued support from Point CNC Limited means a huge amount, and
carrying that backing into one of the world’s greatest historic motorsport events made the weekend even more
meaningful.
The reception from the fans, the atmosphere in the paddock, and the history surrounding the Members’ Meeting
made it a weekend I’ll never forget. To experience it all in the legendary Triplex Capri only added to how
meaningful the event was.
A massive thank you to Andrew Willis and the entire team for the opportunity, and to Point CNC Limited for their
continued backing throughout the journey. Hopefully this is only the beginning of many more memorable events
to come.
